Eye Health Tea Blend

Eye Health Tea Blend

The pandemic might have changed how we work and study forever. While it has opened up a possibility of a hybrid workplace or classroom, it has also affected the amount of time we spend attached to electronics. My eyes do definitely feel the strain and sometimes it takes quite an effort to even relax them after hours of teaching online. How are your eyes doing?

Here’s a blend I’m trying to support my vision naturally. Dark berries are high in anthocyanins - antioxidants beneficial for eye health. Lutein and zeaxanthin, key nutrients for eye health, are found in calendula and turmeric which is awesome for overall health too! All the other herbs in this blend also help reduce the oxidation in the eye’s lens and are full of nutrition.

Ingredients:

1 part dark berries (bilberries, mulberries, blueberries, blackberries, elderberries)

1 part rooibos

1 part turmeric (I thinly slice fresh and dehydrate)

1 part eyebright

1/4 part calendula

1/8 part cloves

1/8 part cardamom

Roughly adapted from @drjjpursell

Directions:

Measure out the herbs by ‘parts’ into a clean, dry, wide-mouthed jar or lidded container. ‘A part’ can be any measure you decide based on the quantity you want to make, for example a teaspoon, a tablespoon or a cup. The formula simply gives you a proportion. Mix well, cap and label. Keep the leftover tea blend in a dry place away from light.

To make the tea, add 1 tablespoon of tea blend to a cup and pour 12oz of just boiled water. Cover and steep for 10-20 minutes. Then strain and enjoy!

Let me know if you give it a try!
